Origin & Charism

One thing I ask of the Lord. This I long to dwell in the house of the Lord,
all the days of my life.

St. Anthony-Anne's Maternity Clinic, Doyina, Ghana

  1. ST. ANTHONY ANN HOSPITAL-  BRIEF HISTORY

St. Anthony Ann Hospital was established as a Health Centre in the year 1956.From the 1970s,   Archbishop Emeritus Peter Kwasi Sarpong, the former Catholic ArchBishop of Kumasi also contributed to its growth.

Late Nana Kwasi Gyakye, a native of Donyina offered his private home for the running of this Health facility and he supported it materially. Miss. Dee, a Dutch, from Holland, was in charge and also was very supportive materially.

During the era of Nana Yaw Nimoh; himself, his elders and the entire Donyina Community offered communal labour and other resources to ensure the sustainability of the Clinic.

Rev. Sr. Dee left for Holland; the Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM) Sisters Congregation from Nigeria was invited by then Bishop of Kumasi to take over its management.

When the late Rev .Fr. Henry Koning was appointed as the Parish Priest of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, he provided some funds to begin the works on the new building complex. Subsequent Parish Priests of St. John the Baptist ensured the continuity of the facility. In 1995 when the Konongo - Mampong Diocese was created, the facility fell under the jurisdiction of the new diocese.

The IHM Sisters ended their contract in 2002. The facility came under the management of seconded Medical Personnel from the Ministry of Health between the years 2002 and 2007 headed by Miss Benedicta Agamba, the Principal Physician Assistant.

The facility is currently under the management of the Dominican Sisters Congregation of St. Catherine of Siena who came from Nigeria in the year 2008 and took over the Administration of the Clinic and moved it from  Maternity Home to Clinic and finally to the status of a Primary Hospital in the year 2018.
